** - 2011 Dining Guide:

So when we go to an event it is kind of like this, "Where do we go in town to eat? What is there here that is unique and has good food." Then we go around town to the locals and ask where is something out of the norm that has great food. I am offering this to you as my opinion along with my wife and a few others that go to lunch on a daily basis. I am not doing this to favor any dining facilities but just where we happen to frequent.

(Note, I do know how to spell but the spelling below is correct)

Downtown Area within walking distance of the event:

There will also be food vendors on the grounds on Saturday
that we have selected from the best in the area.

Woodfire Grill "Button Factory"-

Opened a couple of years ago this is a historic pearl button factory from the early 1900s'. It is a neat old building with great food and pretty reasonable prices. Steaks, seafood, sandwiches, salads etc. We either order the Italian Sausage or Brooklyn Wiseguy sandwiches. For those salad lovers they have many different salads and you won't walk away hungry. Also they have a screened outdoor patio for those wanting a brew or two in the shade while you're here. Ask them for an event drink special or two. Located right across from the event site on Mississippi Drive.

Mississipi Brew -

No I didn't spell it wrong, this is how they spell it on their sign in their window. This is a historic pub that will also have a vendor booth at the event for sandwiches. Located right across Mississippi Drive from the event on Iowa Ave. We like to go here over our lunch hour and sit outside in their beer garden for burgers in the summer. The Brew Burger is great with waffle fries. They have smoking and non-smoking areas if there is such a thing. The Brew will also be having event drink specials and an oldies band on both Friday and Saturday for a good time.

Avenue Subs -

This is a new sub shop located next to the Mississippi Brew right across the street from the show site in the park. Great subs and reasonable.

Elly's Tea Room -

This dining facility has deli sandwiches with an outdoor patio with a clear few of the river and located directly behind the Button Factory to the north (the river runs east to west in Muscatine). They have all the different coffee and teas, really good cold deli sandwiches made daily, homemade potato chips, and bars and cakes etc. that have put a few pounds around local's midsections. This is also part of the Pearl City Plaza that has been rebuilt into an upscale specialty shopping area.

The Underground -

This dining facility is located right below the Pearl City Plaza and you enter it off of 2nd Street one block north of Mississippi Drive. They have really good pizza and barley pop and regular pop.

Riverview Café -

Located on the corner of 2nd Street and Cedar Street one block north of show site. Nice café with full menu at reasonable prices. Good breakfast and lunch specials under $6.

Salvatore's -

There are 2 things my wife and I crave from time to time. One of them is Salvatore's pizza. This family owned business has a unique atmosphere and we have not had pizza anywhere like their specialty Romano Ranch. Their pasta dishes are also very good and you won't be disappointed. They also serve beer and wine along with all other drinks. Order a jumbo and get a free single topping small is their special. Romano Ranch is a white sauce pizza with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, cheese, and garlic. They also have other pizza but this is our favorite! Located on one block north from the event just east of 2nd Street and Cedar Street across from First National Bank.

Guadalajara Restaurant -

Mexican restaurant one block north of show site. Has many different entrees and just opened a new restaurant.

Chocolate City Ribs -

One block north of show site on 2nd Street between Iowa and Sycamore. Open from 4 to 8 pm has an open air smoker right out back and makes ribs the old fashioned way. Nothing fancy but good food!

Wine Nutz -

Wine Nutz opened right before the 2010 event and have a website at http://wine-nutz.com/ . This is a very unique establishment in the Pearl Plaza right above Elly's Tea Room with a view of the park. Try unique wines and beer with assorted nutz? Neat place!

Lodging Area and Park Avenue Establishments:
Los Lomas -

Mexican restaurant located on Park Ave (Business 61) just south of the Muscatine Mall on the east side of the street. This is some of the best Mexican food we have ever had. If you are with a large group the waiters bring out 5 to 6 meals stacked up their arms and balanced perfectly. Food is very reasonable and very fast. They have margaritas, and most other beverages. You can't go wrong.

Peking -

Ok, so this is the second craving my wife and I have. Peking is a Chinese restaurant located in the strip mall right across from the Muscatine Mall. If you like Chinese you can't go wrong here. If you like spicy Chinese try any of their Hot and Spicy dishes. They have a Lunch Menu everyday that you can't go wrong.

Chinese Buffet -

Located in the Muscatine Mall has a lunch special buffet price and great Chinese and American food.

Pizza Ranch -

Great buffet and reasonably priced. Lunch or Dinner.

Diamond Dave's -

Mexican and American located in the Hy-Vee parking lot.

Hy-Vee -

The Hy-Vee store is going all out for this event and also has the best breakfast in town at a reasonable price. They also have been sponsors of the event from its beginning by providing participant breakfast on Saturday morning.

Pizza Hut, Country Kitchen, Long John's, KFC, etc. are all along Park Ave by the motels.

Fairport Camping Area Great Restaurant:

If you are camping east of town on Hwy 22 at Fairport Landing, then right upstream about ¼ mile is the Light House on the Mississippi for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is laid back and the food is great! Has huge screened in porch area overlooking the Mississippi and accessible by boat or car. We boat there all the time!
