Campgrounds

There are a couple of nice campgrounds close to town. They are located to the east of town on Hwy 22. The closest is Fairport Landing Rec Area that is located right on the river, and is operated by the Iowa DNR. It has full hook-ups and a nice shower house facility. This is approx. 5 miles due east of town on Hwy 22, just follow the river and you can't miss it. The second park, Shady Creek Rec Area is just another 5 miles further to the east (upstream) and is also a DNR park. See website below for more information..

This motel offers something different if you want to pay a little extra. They have built some "Phantasuites", about 16 of them in all. They all have various themes from an igloo to a space capsule, a jungle room to Henry the VIII, Riverboat Gambler to Japanese Garden. Anyway, my wife and I went there yesterday since they offer tours to the public Sunday afternoons at 3:00 to check out the Phantasuites. They are really cool. Some of them have waterbeds and some don't so if you want to try one out but have back problems give them a call first to find out the suites with the conventional beds. Each suite have built in whirlpools in each suite. Some are two story and some are single but all very unique. Some of them overlook the pool area with a balcony or walk right out to the pool. The pool area has a huge waterfall and is also very nice. They also have a full breakfast provided to all of there guest with the same lady cook of 30 years right at the poolside. They also have reasonable regular rooms other than just the Phantasuites.

From the intersection of Hwy 38 and 61 go south on business Hwy 61 to the second stop light and it is on the right hand side. Ask for the Muscatine Boat Show participant rate. The rate is $49.95 + tax per night for either a single or double room and $149/night for any of the Phantasuites.
